Oklahoma State University Athletics
Oklahoma State University is an NCAA Division I school, with baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, tennis, track & field, and wrestling for men and basketball, cross-country, equestrian, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, and track & field for women. The team nickname is the Cowboys and Cowgirls.
Spirit groups include a cheer squad, a pom squad, a marching band, and the mascot “Pistol Pete.” The caricature of Pistol Pete was based on a real cowboy, Frank Eaton, who was present at various Oklahoma State University events during his lifetime.
Oklahoma State University teams have won 44 NCAA national championships. The baseball team has been in the College World Series 19 times.
Sports facilities include an arena, track and field center, a soccer complex, an equine center, a golf course, softball and baseball stadiums, and a tennis complex. The University is presently engaged in a campaign to renovate and upgrade the existing football stadium.
OSU boasts 44 NCAA titles over its illustrious athletics history, ranking it fourth on the list of most national titles. The University also operates on a fairly tight budget, which is quite a feat in these days of mega-programs. Men’s sports include a reputable football program, basketball, cross-country, wrestling, track & field, baseball, golf, and tennis. Women’s sports include basketball, soccer, equestrian, cross-country, track & field, softball, golf, and tennis.
